7 Hacks to Make Your Mornings Easier
So, if you're anything like me… you are NOT a morning person. Getting out of bed every morning is like torture. I try to sleep until the last possible minute. Since I clearly choose sleep over anything else, getting my stuff together and getting out the door can sometimes be a struggle. These 7 hacks have helped me manage my morning schedule so that I am in one piece by the time I get to work!
The Night Before
Pick An Outfit- In a perfect world, I would have that little closet organizer thing Cher from Clueless uses to get ready. But unfortunately, I have to do it the old fashioned way. Ugh, as if! Picking out what I'm gonna wear the night before saves me so much time and aggravation in the morning. And your outfit will probably look cuter. More sleep, and a cute outfit. #Goals
Brew a Pot of Coffee- This one is for all of my iced coffee lovers out there. Here in Boston it doesn't matter the season, we gotta have our iced coffee. Usually on a Sunday night I will brew a pot of coffee and put it in the refrigerator to chill over night. This will last me a few days and I'll do it again on Wednesday night. This not only saves you 15 mins in the Starbucks or Dunkins line but also saves you money. Swap out your daily Starbucks drink for this and in 3 months you'll pretty much have a down payment for a new house.
Overnight Oats- There's a slim chance that anyone besides me, babies, and old Irish ladies actually enjoy eating oatmeal but just in case…. Here's my favorite recipe! Take 1/2 cup of old fashioned oats, 1/2 cup of milk, water, almond milk, coconut milk (whatever floats your boat), some cinnamon, maybe brown sugar if you want some sweetness. Mix all that in a mason jar, leave it in the fridge overnight. Voila! Delicious oatmeal ready for you to just pop in the microwave and enjoy! Add some fruit or nuts for an extra kick.
Go To Sleep Early- I know this is probably a given, but it seriously helps. I personally like to get 8 hours of sleep. Anything less than 5 hours, you can count on my hair NOT being done. It's easier said than done though. I'll admit, sometimes I get sucked into that damn Instagram explore page. It's like I go into a portal of skinny teas, not so funny vine turned IG skits, and Anastasia Beverly Hills type eyebrows everywhere. Best advice I have, just put the phone down, IG will be there in the morning!
Once You Wake Up
No Social Media- This is a big one for me. I'm sure we've all been there. The "I'm just gonna check my Facebook really quick before I get in the shower" type of morning, and some how 20 minutes later you find yourself pinning lasagna recipes. Forget it, once I get started pinning, I can't stop. I make sure I get to work a half hour early so I can check ALL social media accounts and make sure I haven't missed any of The Shade Rooms posts on Instagram and I can even have a Facebook survey read me my future.
Drink Water- I always try to have a glass of ice water while I get ready. It really wakes me up and it gets rid of that empty feeling in your stomach from not having anything all night (or maybe you did have something in the middle of the night, I'm not here to judge!) You always want to make sure the first thing you fuel your body with in the morning is water. Before any juice, coffee, tea... go with the water!
Work Out- Okay, I'm gonna be real with you guys. I definitely do not work out every morning. I try to do a 30 minute Tae-Bo class a few times a week. (extra points for you if you know what Tae-Bo is, shout out to Billy Blanks!) Trust me, it's a pain in the ass to get up 45 minutes earlier than usual and put on "work out" clothes which consists of the pajamas I wore the night before, a pair of sneakers and maybe a sports bra if I'm awake enough. Once I'm finished though, I feel like a new person. Sweaty… but new. I promise you will feel more energized than if you had slept in those extra 45 minutes.
I hope you guys enjoyed my hacks! Let me know if you try them out or if you have some morning hacks yourself.
