How To: Clean Your Make Up Brushes!
Make up is so much fun, right?! Wanna know what isn't fun… cleaning your make up brushes. This is probably my least favorite chore besides taking out the trash. Yes, it sucks but it's SO important. I'm way past due for a good brush cleaning (which would explain the breakouts *eye rolling emoji) so I figured why not let you guys in on my brush cleaning hacks since I have to do it anyways.
What you'll need:
- dirty brushes (duh)
- dish soap
- olive oil
- textured silicone brush cleaning tool
All you have to do is put a few pumps of dish soap (I use Dawn) and a few swirls of olive oil on a plate. Wet your dirty brush, dip it in the soap/oil mixture and gently rub it agains the silicone brush cleaner for about 30 seconds. Rinse the brush really, really good. Make sure you're holding the brush downward when you rinse it to make sure that nothing is going deeper into the brush. You may have to do this twice to make sure all of the product is gone. Squeeze out any excess water, and lightly rub the brush against a dry towel to speed up the drying process. I always stand the more dense brushes upside-down on a towel and leave them over night to dry, the less dense ones may lose their shape if they're upside-down so be careful.
And that's that.. this is the only way I've ever cleaned my make up brushes. I have pretty sensitive skin and using dawn has never irritated me (after all, it is the soap they use to clean little duckies after an oil spill). The textured silicone brush tool is a life saver! It cuts the time you spend scrubbing in half. It's a tedious job but it has to be done! And hopefully this makes it a little easier for you. Until next time..
