Worth the Hype? The Lash Craze!
Without a doubt, one of the biggest beauty trends right now is having BOMB lashes. We all learned a while back how important eyebrows are and how much they can effect your whole look. Now we're moving to the lashes. We've all felt that "damn, I look good" feeling when we throw on a pair of strip lashes but taking them off at the end of the day can be so depressing. NOW, you don't have to go through the heart break of taking those lashes off. There are so many different options for lashes now. Whether you're a show stopper and want lash extensions, you want to add a little pep to your step with a lash lift, or you want to keep it au-natural with a lash tint. There is a different technique for every girl. What a time….. to be alive!! *Drake voice*
The best part about getting lash extensions/lift/tint is the fresh and flawless face you wake up with. When your lashes are on point, you look 10x more alive.. I'm gonna share with you my lash journey and how I feel about this new lash craze!
I had lash extensions for about 3 months. When they were freshly done I felt like a brand new girl. After a few weeks, when they started falling out…. It looked like a twig bush was hanging from my eyeball. (Pretty sure I just made up "twig bush" but google it, it's very accurate) I was really in love with them.. But I did run into a few problems with my lash extensions. One thing I didn't like was how glamorous I looked. I know you're probably thinking "uhhh… isn't that the point?" but let me explain. At the time that I had the lash extensions, I was working at the bakery which means I didn't wear make up or do my hair. I would literally roll out of bed, throw my hat on and go. I felt like they were a little too much when I had a fresh face. Now on the other hand, when I had make up on, I pretty much walked around like I was Beyonce (kinda do that anyways, so maybe that wasn't the best example). Another thing I wasn't a fan of was how high maintenance they were. You have to be really careful about keeping them clean.. but you also have to be careful what you clean them with because some things can break down the glue which can make them fall off faster.
All in all, lash extension were very fun. They definitely make a huge difference. If you're very good about keeping them clean and don't mind going for a re-fill every once in a while, lash extensions are perfect for you.
The next stage of my lash journey wasn't much of a LASH journey at all….. just a journey. That was because I had about 3 lashes left. Yeah, hot mess. So let me just start by saying I didn't go to the nicest place to get my lash extensions. That's because lash extensions are pretty expensive and you know mama loves a bargain. I went somewhere that did them for a little cheaper than most places. The place was definitely clean, I never got an infection or anything like that… I just think the glue they used was maybe a little too strong. Learn from my mistake. Lash extensions should not be something you can cut corners with. They're expensive.. but worth it. Don't try to avoid the price.
Anyways, back to my 3 lashes. It was definitely a struggle to get my lashes back to the way they were before I got the extensions. Luckily, it didn't take too long for them to go back to (almost) normal. Pinterest helped me a lot with little hacks on how to make them grow faster. And what kinda friend would I be if I didn't share those hacks with you!
All you need is Castor Oil and empty mascara tubes. You can find both on Amazon for super cheap. Pour the castor oil in the tube, apply it every night before you go to bed and in no time you're lashes are thicker and longer than ever. You can use this on your eyebrows too. It's a really great alternative for prescription lash enhancers like Latisse which can actually darken your eye color.
I've always had some what long lashes but they are pin straight. They have no curl what so ever (as you can see in the picture below). I was on Instagram one day (story of my life) and saw a "lash lift"... Girl what?! I didn't know what it was, but I wanted in. Looking into it more, I realized a lash lift is pretty much a perm for your eye lashes. Now I know that sounds a little scary. But don't worry it's not like the nasty smelling perms your mom got in the 80's. Don't ask me what they use because I have no idea (I'm not that much of a blogger yet) but I can tell you that it's amaze-balls.
I started following a girl I went to high school with named Emily after seeing all the amazing lash extension before & after pics she posts. I noticed she posted a picture of a before & after lash lift. So in true millennial girl fashion I immediately screenshotted it and sent it to my sister. It didn't take much convincing, she was in. We sent up an appointment with Emily and patiently waited for it to come around (she's a busy gal).
These are my natural lashes before the lash lift. SUPER straight!
So she puts this mini rubber curler thing on your lash line and sticks your lashes to it. She applies a layer of…. something, waits a few minutes and then wipes it off. Then applies a layer of a different "something" and again waits a few minutes before wiping it off. The process takes about 30 minutes. She did assure us that once the lashes are dry they will be more curled than when they are freshly done. You have to make sure you don't get your lashes wet for 24 hours. which wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
Okay, so above you'll see the most up close picture of my face that has ever been taken. Also, I'm not cross eyed even though this picture suggests other wise. Anywho, this is what my lashes looked like after completely drying. This is with no mascara. For some, this may not seem like a big deal. But for someone who's lashes literally face downward, this is heaven.
Here's a "few margaritas in, my hair was straight when I left the house" selfie from my sister's surprise party. This was obviously taken with the front camera of my iPhone so it's not super clean (and again, margaritas) but you can see that my lashes are ACTUALLY curled. You wanna know the best part?! They stayed like that the whole night, where as usually they go flat after 10 minutes. I am extremely happy with my lash lift. Emily said the lift can last for about 8 weeks. I went about 2 and a half weeks ago and they're still just as curled as the first day. I definitely plan on going back once it wears off.
Lash lifts are definitely more natural looking than lash extensions. But it really all depends on personal preference. The number one thing you need to know before going for any kind of lash enhancements, do your research!! Make sure the place or person you are going to is clean. Eye infections are no joke. You don't want to be known as the girl who went blind from getting lash extensions. (kidding, I don't know if that's possible, don't get worried)
If you're in the Boston area, I highly recommend Emily. You can follow her on Instagram @LashesbyEmily_, she is so sweet and very professional. Plus she will make your lashes look like a million bucks! Even if you're not in the area, check out her page. Every picture she posts will tun you into a real life heart eyed emoji.
That's all I have for now, until next time.. Bat those lashes, ladies!
