Worth the Hype? Kylie Lip Gloss Edition
If there is one new make up brand that has been taking social media by storm it's Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner. I wouldn't call myself a Kardashian/Jenner lover but I'm definitely not a Kardashian/Jenner hater like a lot of people out there. I'll admit I'm a little obsessed with their cute outfits, amazing make up looks, and all their family drama (of course).
When I heard Kylie was coming out with a make up line starting with lip kits I was super excited. I wasn't able to get any of the lip kits seeing how they all sold out in about 12 seconds but I was able to get the "So Cute" lip gloss. I'm gonna share with you how I truly feel about the gloss and if I think it's worth all the hype!
After seeing the swatches on Kylie's Instagram and Snapchat I knew immediately I wanted the "So Cute" gloss. The other two glosses "Like" and "Literally" were too brown for my liking. They're gorgeous colors, just not for me. So ordering the gloss was stressful to say the least. I was almost positive it was going to sell out before I could get to it but luckily it didn't. The gloss is $15 and shipping is $8.95. I'm one of those people that will spend $20 more than I have to, to save $4.99 on shipping. Seeing that $8.95 shipping charge hurt me but you know what they say…. beauty is pain.
So I come home from work and the adorable black and white box is waiting for me. I'm impressed by the cute packaging, I'll admit that. The gloss has a very strong smell. It's kinda like a vanilla cupcake or something which I don't mind. When I swatch it on my hand I can tell it's not like the color I saw online. Online it looked like more of a nude pink color but on my hand it was coming off a lot more tan nude. I was upset about that cause tan nudes don't tend to look good on my white as milk complexion.
When I tried the gloss on for the first time I was "ehh" about it. It was definitely more tan nude than I imagined it was going to be. The formula is nice. It's very thick when first applying it. The applicator is a little hard to work with especially on the outline of your lips.
The second time using the gloss I got the hang of it. I lined my lips with a pink lipliner, my favorite is Westie by Colourpop Cosmetics. I applied the gloss as evenly as possible with the crappy applicator and then patted it out with my finger. At first it's a little too nude but after about 5 or 10 minutes the color and formula starts to settle into my lips. It lasts for hours but even after it settles in, it is still a bit sticky.
Okay.. since I just explained my whole life story, here's the part you actually came for. I like the gloss. Just LIKE it. Would I buy it again? No. Will I use this one until the last drop? Yes. I don't think I'll be trying one of the lip kits only because I don't think it's worth the price. I just think we're all buying the name that's on the lip product instead of the lip product itself. I really look forward to seeing what else Kylie does with her Kylie Cosmetics brand though. Keep the grind going girl!
